How to Give Your Pet Medicine at Home

Hiding Pills in Food

Many pets take pills hidden in soft food โ€” a small ball of wet food, a piece of chicken, or a treat works well. Check that your pet actually swallowed it; crafty pets spit them out when you're not looking.

Liquid Medications

Use a dropper or syringe (without needle) to place liquid medication in the side of the mouth, between the cheek and teeth. Allow the pet to swallow naturally. Never force the head back as this increases choking risk.

When to Ask the Clinic

Some medications can be reformulated into flavored chews or transdermal gels that are applied to the ear flap. Ask our pharmacist if your pet consistently refuses oral medication.
